"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." (Romans 8: 28)
In the several debates that I have had on the subject of eternal security and against those who teach that one who has been truly saved may lose that salvation I have sometimes used the above verse in support of what is commonly called "once saved always saved." After citing the text, I ask this question: if one is "called" and then later lost his salvation and went to Hell, how could it be true that "all things worked together for good" in his case? I rarely got any of my opponents to answer this powerful rhetorical. What think ye?
