Spurgeon - Begotten by Faith

Spurgeon said:

"Where there is no faith, there has been no quickening of the Holy Spirit, for faith is of the very essence of spiritual life."

(Faith Essential to Pleasing God, MTP, Sermon #2100, Vol. 35, 446).

"So Spurgeon's view is that regeneration neither precedes faith nor follows after faith -- rather, regeneration is the very creation of faith itself." (Bob Ross)

Stephen,

I'm a big Spurgeon fan.
He was a textual preacher,
who was pointed in his
explanation of the text.

This quote gets to the
heart of regeneration
and faith.

I really enjoy your blog.

Stephen,

I read the article by Bob Ross.
That was an eye-opener. I'm
certainly in agreement with the
article.

Spurgeon is one of my favorite
preachers to read. I often go
to spurgeon.com.

Dear Dr. Trader:

Thanks much. I always enjoy your visits here. Your comments are always coveted.

Spurgeon keeps me centered and balanced, from going into extremes. Yes, I disagree with him on some things, but who agrees on everything?

Brother Bob Ross is a great Calvinistic apologist who does not get the recognition he deserves. He does not promote himself, like some, nor a "Phd" to go behind his name. But, neither did Jesus.

Bob's writings on "Hyper Calvinism" and "Hardshellism" and his books on the Trinity, Landmarkism, Acts 2:38, Campbellism, KJV onlyism, and on Intrumental Music in worship, are superb. It is sad that brother James White says what he does about this aged father in our Baptist Israel.

God bless,

Stephen

One other thing I forgot to mention. I also think Spurgeon's method of preaching was superior. I have always loved textual and topical preaching. Today's emphasis on "expository" preaching is not something I countenance.

God bless,

Stephen

Stephen,

The article by Bob Ross on
Calvinism-Regeneration, March 17,
2006, was excellent. He certainly
disproves the theory of regeneration before faith.

After reading so much by R.C. Sproul and Berkhof, I needed
to read this article.

The Word and Spirit emphasis is
right on target.
